You’d think that the dominant, highly profitable, retail platform in history wouldn’t need financial help from the government, but it gets it all the same. $6 billion so far.

All of the tax benefits and subsidies are from counties, eager to get the benefit of providing terrible jobs for their citizens.

And therein lies the problem. America is unlike most countries in that states can do things different to the federal government, and counties can do things differently to the states they are in. That means that businesses that already dominate can go shopping around for whichever location will give them the best deal. With so many counties out there, they will find one that gives them more than what they will gain. Because jobs is the perennial strong message in elections.

It is a problem that is hard to fix legally. I suggest a coalition of counties that refuse to give tax benefits to any business at all. Because collectively, otherwise, they lose and big business wins
